Clint Coghill

Clint Coghill

Chief Executive Officer

Clint Coghill co-founded Backstop Solutions Group in 2003 as the Founding Chairman and has helped guide the company as Chairman of the Board for the last 15 years. Clint now leads the Backstop Executive Team as CEO.

Prior to joining Backstop in an executive role, Clint was CIO of Coghill Capital Management, a successful Chicago-based hedge fund management company he started in 1995. Among his other professional pursuits, Clint was the Founding Chairman of NFTE Chicago’s Regional Advisory Board, which provides entrepreneurship programs to young people from low-income communities and reaches more than 2,000 youth per year. He is also the founder of two charitable Organizations, the Coghill Family Foundation and the Environmental Impact Initiative.

Clint received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the London Business School.

Jim Schuler

Jim Schuler

Chief Financial Officer

Jim Schuler has 20+ years of experience in the financial services industry, specifically focusing on finance, accounting, legal, operations, deal structuring, project management and evaluating financial and operational results. Prior to Backstop, Jim was a Principal and the CFO at Coghill Capital Management, with previous financial leadership roles at Goldman Sachs, The Hull Group, LLC, and accounting group Schultz, Chez and Jesser, LLP. He also serves on various private company and charitable boards.

Jim is a Certified Public Accountant with a Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from DePaul University's Kellstadt School of Business.

Beth Hayden

Beth Hayden

SVP, People & Development

As SVP of People & Development for Backstop Solutions, Beth Hayden is responsible for aligning business and talent strategies, and creating a world-class employee experience that advances the company brand and culture. She also has accountability for Backstop’s learning platform and Knowledge Management. With over twenty years’ experience as a human capital executive Beth has helped various companies transform their people practices and earn recognition as a best place to work. Most recently, Beth was Chief Human Resources Officer, Americas at JLL, a global commercial real estate services organization. In this role, she provided leadership for the dynamic people function, in alignment with significant organizational growth, globally. Prior to JLL, Beth served as Vice President of Human Resources at RIC (AbilityLab) and Trizec Properties, and held a global HR role at Morton International.

Beth earned her MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern, and holds a BS in Psychology from the University of Illinois. She serves on the Executive Committee of the YWCA Board of Directors, the Development Board of PAWS, and the Board of Directors for HRMAC (Human Resources Management Association of Chicago). Beth is also a certified yoga teacher.

John Pettit

John Pettit

Chief Technology Officer

John Pettit is an accomplished technology executive with an impressive history of working with world-class engineering teams to deliver software that helps people achieve more. With more than 20 years of experience, John's extensive background includes noted accomplishments in financial software development. He previously led the technology teams at PerTrac in building the premier analysis, reporting, and portfolio tools used by institutional alternative asset allocators. John’s primary focus is designing and building best-in-class commercial software solutions and enterprise applications.

Prior to Backstop, John led the IT transformation strategy to create a multi-tenant SaaS-based analytics platform for the automotive industry. John holds an MBA and BSIT from University of Phoenix, and has earned a Financial Risk Manager designation, as well as multiple Microsoft Certifications.

Nancy Wells

Nancy Wells

SVP, Global Sales

Nancy has a depth of experience in both sales and sales management, most recently as SVP, Sales at Market Track, where she helped notable brands maximize sales and profitability with actionable data and insights. Prior to Market Track, Nancy was a Principal Solutions Specialist at Microsoft and an Application Sales Manager for Oracle. She also held positions at Xerox Corporation, National Data Corporation, and Gartner.

Nancy holds Business Management and Economics degrees from Hartwick College.


Chad Erwin

SVP, Asset Owners

Over the past 20+ years in the institutional investment industry, Chad has served in multiple roles, including portfolio manager, head of global due diligence, and chief operating officer. Prior to joining Backstop in 2018, Chad honed his holistic approach to the investment process at MCP Alternative Asset Management, where he facilitated decision-making for global institutional investors, pensions, endowments, and UHNW families. Chad also boasts an extensive consulting background. At Backstop, he is responsible for the overall client experience for the company’s allocator customers.

Chad holds an Accounting degree from University of Iowa and an MBA in Analytic Finance and Econometrics from the University of Chicago. He is a CPA and CFA charterholder.

Michael Neuman

VP, Information Security

Michael Neuman is responsible for Backstop’s data and information systems security. Prior to joining Backstop in 2015, Michael served in various IS leadership roles, most recently as the Director of Security for Textura Corporation and the CISO for major mortgage company in the Chicagoland Area. Michael holds an MS in Communication Systems from Northwestern University and BA in Political Science and History from Purdue University. Michael’s Information Security Certifications include: CISSP, GISP, GCCC and GCIH.

Adam Hoit

Adam Hoit

VP, Product Management

Adam Hoit has been an exemplary leader over his eight-year tenure at Backstop. As VP of Product, Adam is responsible for driving coherent product strategy across client verticals, deepening the alignment of the product team with other business units, and establishing efficient processes throughout the product lifecycle.

Adam joined Backstop in 2008 as a project manager, and filled several leadership roles on the professional services team before transitioning to Product. With 9 years’ experience in the investment industry, Adam previously worked as Director of Learning and Development at OptionsXpress, a major retail derivatives brokerage. Prior to OptionsXpress, Adam spent three years in Beijing at China’s leading Education and Technology enterprise, where he gained experience applying Adult Learning Theory and best practices of instructional design in corporate and educational settings. Adam earned his B.A. from Georgetown University.


Tony Lai

VP, Customer Success

As VP, Customer Success for Backstop Solutions, Tony oversees a dedicated team of global professionals focused on ensuring the long-term success of all Backstop customers. This includes managing customer loyalty, relationships, and engagements that lead to increased client growth and scalability. Tony brings more than 11 years of experience in the alternative Investments industry and over 17 years focused on professional services and enterprise technology.Tony joined Backstop when the company acquired Cogency Software in 2015, where he served as SVP of Client Services.

As an Executive Committee member that led professional services and operations at Cogency, he built a team of project managers, implementation consultants, and technical support specialists. His program was focused on the full lifecycle of client engagement with deliverables from pre-sales through development, project management, implementation, and support. Prior to Cogency, Tony served as Director of the Project Management Office at Appian Bridge Corp, a proprietary software and consulting firm in NYC. Tony holds a BA from Colgate University in upstate NY.


Maryling Yu

VP, Marketing

As Vice President, Marketing, Maryling Yu is responsible for all aspects of marketing for Backstop, including building the Backstop brand, creating demand, enabling the field, and demonstrating results.

Maryling brings over 15 years of marketing experience to Backstop. Prior to this position, she helmed marketing for LotLinx, a digital automotive advertising startup, and for Adeptia, an integration-as-a-service company. She held multiple positions for Sungard Availability Services, including Senior Director, Demand Generation and Digital Marketing, and Director of Product Marketing.

Maryling also has a background in solutions marketing consulting, having worked with NetApp, Brocade, and many other Silicon Valley technology firms.

Maryling earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, as well as a Master’s degree in International Development Policy from Stanford University. She also holds an B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University.

Greg Fujii

VP, Professional Services

After more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Greg Fujii joined Backstop in 2017 to lead the Company's Professional Services Group. Having used and implemented Backstop's software at a number of alternative investment firms, Greg's primary focus is on architecting and implementing the Backstop software suite to help clients across the Institutional investment landscape maximize productivity.

Prior to joining Backstop, Greg held various positions at Chicago-based hedge funds including Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst. Greg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor relations from Cornell University.

Deanne Folk

VP, Knowledge Management

One of Backstop’s longest employees, Deanne Folk has been instrumental in growing the organization from a startup to a 200-person company. As VP of Knowledge Management, Deanne oversees a multi-regional team and leads the charge on various client and employee education events, including our annual user conference and Backstop’s new hire onboarding program.

Before heading up Knowledge Management, Deanne held various leadership roles on Backstop’s education and client services team. In each position, Deanne developed programs to enhance the user experience and increase the impact of user support. Prior to Backstop, she was an account executive for CBS radio.

Deanne was one of the first women to graduate from Western Michigan with a major in Telecommunications Information Management. She has presented at Information and Telecommunications Education and Research Association’s annual conference, and at Western’s Annual IT Forum Conference, where she also served on an advisory panel for the TIM major.
