ABOUT THE 2021 EVENT:

While time only allows us to go in one direction – forward – we can choose HOW we meet the future. At Backstop, we choose to move onward with renewed energy, hope, and optimism. It is in this spirit that we invite you to join us for two days of thought-provoking panels, discussions, and networking on what “The New Normal” looks like and how Backstop can help you thrive in it.

How we are helping you move onward with confidence:

  • In-person AND virtual networking opportunities - We're planning to - conditions permitting - host in-person networking receptions in both New York and Chicago, along with several virtual experiences throughout the conference. Connect with your colleagues from across the globe.

  • An exclusive keynote - Dominique Mielle, author of Damsel in Distressed: My Life in the Golden Age of Hedge Funds and one of the “Top 50 Women in Hedge Funds” by the Hedge Fund Journal and Ernst & Young, will share what it took to reach the highest ranks, the challenges she faced as the lone woman in the room, and where she thinks the hedge fund industry is going.

  • Cross-industry thought leaders - We’re bringing together top allocators and managers to discuss what stays and what goes in the post-pandemic era.

Hedge fund titan and newly-published author Dominique Mielle worked 20 years at Canyon Partnersa complex multi-strategy fund with over $25 billion in assets under management. She was one of the very few women in the hedge fund industry to have made it all the way to the top when she retired in late 2017 as Partner and senior portfolio manager. In 2021, she wrote Damsel in Distressed: My Life in the Golden Age of Hedge Funds, a fast-paced, fun, and fearless tale of the inner workings of this overwhelmingly male-dominated industry. In this fireside chat, Dominique will share what it took to reach the highest ranks, the challenges she faced as the lone woman in the room, and where she thinks the hedge fund industry is going.
